I live on the second floor and my apartment is flooding!!

Sorry for the delay but this is from Sunday ... still no Internet at my house

This morning I new I had to be productive, so I got up cleaned the apartment, put on new sheets and was ready to go to the mercada all by 10:30. Went to the mercada again; this time purchases included Pirates 4 and horchata (rice milk) I know it sounds gross but it is SO GOOD!! Jenny (my fellow Minnesotan friend) and I went to the peliquein store, aka: Commerical Mexicana, where I found a lamp!! I have been looking for one since I got down here! I have the energy efficient lights in my chandler things and I HATE the florescent light they give off. So here is my awesome new lamp!

I got home right before the afternoon storm today, and by the time I got my lamp assembled it was perfect timing because it was getting dark enough outside that I got to use it. When the rain started I made my way around the apartment to shut the windows because it was coming down really hard. As I walked back toward my computer I noticed water POURING in from my door!! It was raining so hard and had such wind behind it, it was gushing into my apartment. I think I ended up mopping up almost a whole bucket.

After mopping I got back to working – lesson planning – my favorite thing in the world. The night concluded with Pirates and nails!

Before I forget… I know I mentioned how funny that when I was at the bar the other week they we’re playing Shania Twain at the bar during the dance contest… THEY DID IT AGAIN!! Here if proof! Turns out I hear that song ALL THE TIME DOWN HERE!! Of all the American songs, REALLY?!?!

It's FRIDAY, FRIDAY, FRIDAY!

People have been singing that song all day!! It's offically Friday which bring an end to the first school week. I feel like this 1/2 a week of school has been one of the longest. I had to come home and take a little nap before I start the weekend. Now that the nap is out of the way it's time to refresh the makeup and go explore ... maybe have a few of my new favorite beers as well

Today I did find out that I'm not crazy and the gas company really did turn off my gas. Turns out nobody's paid it in a while. But, no worries, they told me someone paid it today so maybe it might take 24 hours and I'll have it back... in Mexico that could mean a week. Looks like I may be in search of other peoples hot showers!

Ginny, here is a sign I saw the other day and it reminded me of you...

Craig, thanks for the Personality Color Inventory - the kiddos loved it and our finished products are really going to brighten up the classroom... I'll post a pic next week!!

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!

All I can picture is Nemo swimming around so excited shouting, “It’s the first day of school” over and over to his dad. 

Then on the bus ride in someone was singing Eye of the Tiger. It brought back NHS memories of grad grams, when we transposed the chorus of the song into a little something like this, “It’s the been on the paper, It’s the thrill to write, rising up to the challenge from our teachers” it was kind of perfect. The whole event made me feel like I was in the right place.

Of course Wednesday are my longest days. The class I teach is in a two class block so instead of having a group for 45 minutes I have them for 1 ½ hours. So started with Business Mgmt 2 (meaning their 12^th graders) and then Business Mgmt 1 (1 means their 11^th graders) and than back to a Business Mgmt 2. Let’s just say I’m glad I got to start and finish with the 12^th graders. There is quite the maturity difference between the two grades. The kiddos are great! I think this is going to be a lot of fun! I can’t wait to get going with the curriculum and teach them a thing or two.

After a long exciting day with the kiddos; I went over to Jo and Maya’s after school. We had a great dinner at a little place and good news… I didn’t get sick! Then a couple hours later Jo kicked my butt with and awesome workout. LESSON LEARNED: Eat awesome authentic Mexican dinner AFTER workout… not before! 

After an awesome first day I was excited to start the second but to my sunrise this morning my apartment had no gas... which means NO HOT WATER. So on day second day I have in a pony tail because I had to use the dry shampoo and took the quickest cold shower of my life this morning. Every day is a new experience here!
