Lucha Libre & Bernal

Lots of whistling when I jumped up there for this photo op... they LOVE the blondes!

This weekend was a good one! Friday I tried spinning before school... it would have been great; but I forgot my shirt so instead of getting delicious coffee before school I had to go back home to get something to wear for the day! Then after school I got some drinks with Jenny and we met up with Maya, Beto, Erik (Maya's stepdad) and we headed to Lucha Libre!! MEXICAN WRESTLING!! It was awesome! Rachel remember back in the day how we loved this so much....

The mask is the identity!

They did jump from the top... I love that part!

Outside the ring it totally allowed!

On Saturday I was forced to volunteer at our school fundraiser... do you still consider that volunteering? It was like a fair type thing. I worked at the Duck-O-War. There was a little baby tub and you played against someone trying to get the tuck to the other side of the tub first with a squirt gun... it had potential but the game sucked. After that I went shopping for things for the trip. Got some pants and other little things... I can't believe I'll be in Peru in 7 days!! This time right now I'll be in the Amazon!

Made it to the top!
Today, Kerri, Lauren, and I decided we should practice hiking and we went to Bernal. This is the 3rd largest rock in the world. I impressed myself by making it to the top AND down without having any anxiety attacks from the height... maybe I'm really going to rock in at Machu Picchu!

This is as far as you go! Those are just crazy people going where they shouldn't

I was so proud of making it all the way up here!

March Maddness

March has been such a crazy busy month! I can't remember if I told yall about Habitat yet or not, so we'll start there...

Habitat for Humanity
We even have it here in Meixco! Me and some other teachers traveled about 2 hours outside our city to go build some houses the first weekend in March. Turns out we didn't do any building but we dug holes! The ground is so different here... it's layer after layer after layer of concrete. It took us 4 hours to dig 2.5 feet down a 6x6 whole. It was a great workout! Got a lot of frustration out. The kiddos were impressed I could do so much, I told them it's just like chipping away at ice at the end of your driveway! :)
Jo playing with the kids... all these kids live in homes build by Habitat for Humanity

5k
On March 10 I ran my first Mexican 5k! It was super exciting because the shirts you get down here are SUPER nice. I got a dry wick long sleeve shirt that will come in handy on my trip to Peru! I was really upset at my finish time on 38:07, because a couple nights before I was running a 9 minute mile. Turns out that if you figure that it took us almost 2 minutes before you could actually run (there were over 3,000 people there) and that we ran up an incline most of the way AND it was actually a 5.5k I was at a 10 minute mile. Not the worst I guess!
All finished! It's Kady, me, Jenny, & Ms. Dulce

Eating a banana before the BIG race!

Laura (teaches English) and I ran together and here is us just finishing!

Crossing the finish line!
Nueva Vallarta
This last weekend I was lucky enough to get some family time in! Turns out my cousin Heidi and her family were vacationing down here in Mexico and they invited me to come meet up with them! I had a great time hanging out in the pool and ocean with the boys! I didn't get my camera out too much but I had a lot of fun and finally got some color back!

One of the funniest parts of the trip was we went 'shopping' on the beach and Gabriel my little 6 year old cousin was trying to pick out a souvenir and he saw a crucifix and told him mom so nicely that Jesus was crucified on the cross.... then two seconds later he was like, "Mom can I get this?" I look over and it was a nice little pipe!! It was REALLY funny. Needless to say he didn't understand why he couldn't get it :)

Getting Ready for Peru
Yesterday I got my Yellow Fever shot in preparation of going in the the Amazon! I went back to that great clinica I went to when I got sick to finally get this shot. It's been so hard to track it down, but thanks to my great friend Kady, we found one. It was super funny because they handed me the shot and told me to go upstairs. I thought I was going to have to give it to myself. Turns out I didn't. ;) I can't believe we leave in 10 days!! I don't know what to bring as far a pants selection... any thoughts?
